You've seen the scenario in your mind's eye:
You're broke, living check to check. You end up getting your car reposessed and you're hanging on
to your apartment by a thread...and then you get fired.
What are you going to do?
You go into defense mode. Reflex reactions say curl up in fetal position and cry and that's ok.
Do that for a good hour and get it out of your system. Then start using that God given talent.
Think.
The most important thing is finding a job. Use any change you can find to get a paper and start looking
at the want ads.You have no job so your job is now finding a job. You should work harder at
this than you did in the last job if for no other reason than this: You're working for yourself.
If you fail, you fail yourself, and your family if you have one.
Get a job. Anything. Deliver pizzas, cut hay, scrape dead animals off the road. Just work.
You can always find a good paying job while you're working at Dominos.
Next you have to get the bills under control. Stop paying your blah-blah bills and focus on these five
things, in this order:
Car/Transportation
Rent
Electricity/
waterPhone (employers need a place to reach you!)
Car (gas, insurance, etc) or Cab fare
All other bills can go to hell. Mastercard, Visa, Discover, and that bank loan to pay for your wife's
silicone breasts are all on notice. Call them and let them know you've lost your job. Many of them
will work with you by either letting you make interest payments (only a fraction of the real payment) or
by putting off your billing for a month or two. Most importantly, BE COURTEOUS! The little girl
on the phone didn't fire you. She didn't make you buy those boobies. She's just a girl making minimum
wage and trying to pay HER bills. She's probably reading a spiel (look it up) anyway. Cut her some
slack. You never know, too...some card companies sign you up for payment protection when you
get the card...they might make the payments for you!
Next call your girlfriend/boyfriend/etc and tell them you can't go out on FILL IN THE BLANK night.
You're broke and every damn penny should go to getting you another job or keeping you in your house. You don't know if/when you'll get hired again. Make it last and pinch those pennies!
Finally, if things are really bad, call in favors. Ask for work from the guy that you let borrow your car
5 years ago. Go to the market where you shop and see if they'll let you sack groceries. Anything will do
as long as you stay busy and have some kind of income. This not only helps you stay afloat financially,
but mentally. It's all to easy to get in an unemployed rut because you sat on your butt all day watching
Oprah tell you how important you are with one ear and some collection agency telling you what a
loser you are with the other.
