It's a sad fact but about 25 percent of Mist users first tried out public hacks or some other pay site.
"Big deal" you're probably thinking... Read on.
Thorough reverse engineering and extensive testing we've found that
all sites except one were coded with confirmed
custom trojans. A custom trojan is a special series of code that is homemade and distributed to a select group of individuals for infection. For this reason it is
not reported to antiviral companies and will not detectable by virus scanners. If you were a member of any site aside from MSX and the afore mentioned "one" other site (13 letters in the domain name) you are likely infected.
These trojans are coded specifically for intercepting your internet stream, piggybacking on valid programs like Internet Explorer, your Email client, and Bittorrent clients. Items that are intercepted and relayed back to the host servers include
interception of your Mist login information, your CD keys, your favorites and bookmarks, Internet Explorer history,
online bank information, Bill pay information, and credit card transactions.
In short, these programs will attempt to steal valuable information from you.
The only sure way to remove these programs from your computer is to format your hard disk.
Only once your computer is clean should you change your passwords and logins at your various places of business. Do not put this off!
Due to the large amount of information delivered to these disreputable places it may be up to 12 months before they start using your accounts. By that time you'll have forgotten all about cleaning your hard drive and will have sent them that much more usable data.
NOTE: Formatting will cause you to need a
serial reset for Mist to work.
If you have any questions or feel you have been infected feel free to PM a Mod and they will be happy to assist you.
